This was my first time to go to RT and OMG it was so much fun. I didn’t actually go to the conference, but instead went at a fangirl. Which was great.
Not that I got any more sleep then I would have if I was attending workshops, because I didn’t. Still stayed up to party with people till 2 – 3 in the morning, then was up early the next morning to do it again.
When we got there (Laurie and I), on Thursday night I was amazed at all the costumes. Again, I didn’t realize they had theme balls at night. On Friday, we went to a breakfast with the Wicked Writers and OMG, it was so cool.
I’m not normally an awe struck kinda girl. I mean I totally repsect someone for what they’ve accomplished, but I’ve also worked with huge named people in my jobs and so I don’t go all gooey…OMG…look who I’m talking too. But this was different. I mean really, I’m sitting next SJ Day at breakfast and we’re talking about writing and about normal stuff like cooking breakfast. Amazing!
From there it just continued to get better. Lot’s of fun during the day, helping at one of the signings, and dinner Friday night with Shelley Bradley and friends. Wow, she is so cool and is very real.
Of course seeing other online friends and authors who I talk with but never get to see was great. That’s one of the things conferences are about. It’s like going to camp as an adult. You know each year you’ll get to see your friends that you otherwise never see.
I also met two of the most wonderful people in the world. Crazy Sue and Munk, you both ROCK! It was like we’d always known each other.
So, yep, this time I was total fangirl and had a blast. Now to do laundry, clean the house back up, and try to catch up on sleep. I’ll post some pics soon.
What about you? Do you go to conference’s? Do you feel like a fangirl sometimes? What’s your best experience at a conference?

Wow, Vic, seems like you had a blast! Everyone tells me RT is awesome. Got to put it on my to do list, huh?
I love conferences – but then again I am an extrovert. I love to talk, hang out, have a drink and dance. And that is so true – it is like camp. I can’t wait for Nationals. So looking forward to meeting people I’ve only talked to on loops or blogs.
Glad you had such super fun.
I’ve been to RT once. It wasn’t my scene but reading about this year, it was nearly as wild as the year I went.
I LOVE RWA national. I am just a fan girl when I get there. I so want to stalk SEP or Nora! LOL Last time I went, Keri was one of my roomies. It was a blast
Amy – it really is just like camp. Heehee, I never thought about that until today. I’m like you, I love conferences and being an extrovert it’s easy to walk up to someone and start talking.
I’m really excited you’re going to be at nationals.
Cyndi – when Laurie and I pulled up to the hotel she asked me if I thought the parking space would be okay, instead of answering her I was screaming, look it’s a fairy girl. I had no idea they had costume balls. It’s true, the place is crazy, but I had so much fun.
I also have a great time at RWA, but for me that is more business along with the fun.
Never been and I have to admit, I am curious! Some of it sounds like so much fun!
Keri – maybe next year we can all meet up at RT or are you going to RWA?
Wow, Vicki! Sounds like you had a blast!
I’ve never been, but heard it is so much fun. I went to Nationals back in 2007 when they held it here in Dallas and if was awesome! Can’t wait to see the pictures!!
Melissa – awwww, Dallas was my first RWA conference. I wasn’t new to RWA, but I’d never been before and I loved it. It was a little hard not to be a fangirl there, especially at the signing the first night. And I was floored when Nora came out to the smoking area and walked up to me and just hi, how are you? I think I stuttered something back, but I’m still not sure on that one.
Not going to nationals this year. Will be next year when it’s in TN. BTW, ’07 Dallas was my first conference.
So alot of had first in Dallas, way cool. We’ll miss you this year, but next year we need to plan a lunch, or drinks, or something with everyone.
Dallas was my first too! Cool. Too bad we all didn’t know each other then.
I’d never thought of Nationals being like a camp, but it is! I can hardly wait — those of us who are going should plan on drinks or something this year just to meet each other in person. RT sounds like a lot of fun — I’ve never been there. But I know what you mean about RWA being work as well.
Ah — I’m sitting here remembering and grinning all over.
I would love to attend the RT conference! A lot of the writers I know who went were talking about how much fun they had. I have been to two conferences, and the last one I attended was a blast! I can’t wait to go to another one. They are so much fun.
