In one of my earlier posts, I had mentioned I was going through a divorce.
The irony about all this is that my current romance in progress, The Searching Place, is about a best-selling romance but financially bankrupt writer that’s going through a divorce and whose publisher has just canned her book. The heroine, Lily Perkins, also happens to be a cowgirl that barrel races. Needing a muse for her next best seller, she moves from the brown dusty landscape of west Texas to the green hills of east Tennessee.
I started this story well over a year ago – with everything I normally have going on it takes me a while to finish one. With the divorce, and now working two jobs, something has to give, especially when you’re writing a story that just happens to hit a little too close to home! My horses are the one thing that keep my sanity, so actual writing and promoting have taken a bit of a hit. My poetry / song writing on the other hand has flourished, but then hard times always did bring out that muse.
The good news that is that even though I’m not writing daily, I’m sure that there will be a lot of future stories that come out of all this. In the meantime I thought I’d share some of the other highlights that have been going on.
The first obvious highlight that is that I’ve lost fifty pounds and feel great. This was actually a journey I started well over a year ago and documented in my motivational blog, Cowgirls With Curves. The next post on CWC will be about some of the changes I’ve made, and some of my favorite exercises. For the first time in my life, I have control over my eating and I feel great.
The other highlight is that my barrel racing horses are working awesome. My prospect, Willie Bobbie, has been running a nice pattern when I’ve hauled him to exhibitions. He’s come a long, long ways from the spooky horse and stiff horse he was when we started!
Fireman was off for a year and we’ve had three races since he’s been back working. The best news of all is not only have I won money every race, but I’m riding more aggressive than I ever have and we run faster every time. The last race we ran our fastest time yet!
The last update is that my retired racehorse, Dynamic Host, is back in light training after a break. I had not ridden him out the pasture because he needed a little more foundational work for more control, and quite frankly he’s pretty forward and spooks a lot! The last couple of weeks we finally ventured out into the pasture and he’s making progress.
I know the ending I have for Lily in The Searching Place, of course the girl has to find real love and live happily ever after. At some point I’ll finish the story, and maybe one day I’ll find my cowboy as well!
