This last month has been quite the rollercoaster! Life is a rollercoaster anyhow, but throw a divorce in there and it seems like you hit double jeopardy at times.
I’ve had fabulous times hiking in the mountains, which I’ve always wanted to do.
My barrel horse gave me a good run after a year off and we won some money. That was probably the best day so far!
Then the unexpected happened. The motor in my only mode of transportation blew a motor and bit the dust. Living fourty miles from work, not having any extra money to spend, and not having a back up vehicle, I had a little meltdown. Actually, it was a giant meltdown.
Fortunately, I managed to work out a quick trade with my soon to be ex for the one ton dually he was initially going to end up with. So, I at least have wheels.
That brings up the next hurdle, gas. The dually only gets around to ten to twelve miles per gallon at best. I’ve been on the hunt for a second job, preferably waiting tables but at this point I’ll take anything!
I did manage to make it up to the mountains over the weekend. Even though it was raining, just seeing the view helped relieve some stress for a little while. It’s amazing how small and insignificant you feel when you step up and see the mountains below.
The last bit of good news is that my children’s picture book, Francine The Workin’ Stock Cowgirl written under the name Jewel Thomas, is already on Amazon. The extra cool news is that it will come out in hardback by the end of the summer! My publisher, Dingbat Publishing, just sent me the book cover last night.
The irony of all this is that my latest romance, The Searching Place, is about a romance writer that has just come out of a divorce and her latest book is canned by her publisher. I started the outline for that book well over a year ago…and now here I am sitting in her shoes! Hard times make for good stories, and I have no doubt that mine will wind up in a romance novel somewhere, some how!
