EDITED: The link to the autographed bag and books is now live! Go here! Bid high and bid often!
I’m home from Kansas City, MO and the 2013 RT Convention. It’s been seven years since I attended RT (2006) and my, my, how things have changed! Back in 2006, it was male strippers and sex shoved at me from every direction. Condoms and sex items littered promo alley. Costumes were risque, the cover models were half-naked all the time, and erotic romance dominated everything.,
Fast forward to 2013…Workshops were well distributed (and well attended) for all genre. The male models in attendance were polite, friendly, and dressed! To the right is me, Christine d’Abo and a couple of the models. Nice, huh?
Promo alley was crammed with nail files, postcards, bookmarks, plastic wine glasses, fans, pens, etc. I didn’t see a condom in the bunch…could have been on someone’s promo spot but I never saw it.
And the window covers! wow. Same with elevators but of course I forgot to take a picture of those. Very prominent promotion. I don’t remember what that cost but I’m pretty sure these were $$$. We had to walk that skywalk multiple times a day to get from one side of the second level to the other, so lots of eyes saw these as well as the elevator doors, as it was common to wait for the elevator. But you know how it is in a big hotel with lots of people. However, it wasn’t nearly as bad as the hotel in NYC for the RWA National!
Jaci Burton bought the “room key” promo, so everyone’s room key was her bookcover. Very nice.
I spent a lot of my time running into people and getting signatures on a cloth bag. Now that bag has been given to the Brenda Novak Auction for Diabetes. Want to see?
The list of authors signing the bag is LONG, but there are some good ones! E.L. James, Sylvia Day, Jude Deveraux, Heather Graham, Angela Knight, Laura Kinsale, Lauren Dane, HelenKay Dimon, Jill Shavis, Jaci Burton, Christine d’Abo, and on and on. Signatures cover the front, back, sides, bottom, straps and inner bag lining! Plus there’s lots of autographed books, postcards, bookmarks, jar openers, and other various items to go along with the bag. I’m hoping it’ll draw some good bids.
On Saturday, I had my first print book signing for Texas Two Step. I’d been to a signing for an anthology (Wild At Heart) in which one of my stories appears, but this was the first one where I was the solo act…so to speak. Here’s how I looked that day…
Being an unknown, I didn’t expect to sell many but I sold six and I was thrilled with that. See all my promo sway? 🙂
On the last night, Delilah Devlin, Elle James and I were just too tired to deal with dinner, so we ordered room service. Here is what we had…
RT 2013 was a great time with loads of readers, bloggers and reviewers. Hope to make 2014 in New Orleans.
So what’s the best conference you’ve ever been too? Do you like the smaller regional conferences over the mega national meetings?
And confess…you’ve had a hot fudge, brownie sundae for dinner at least once, right?
