Recently I was walking through a popular department store and I actually stopped mid-stride. I have never considered myself a fashionista and my style lends itself more toward comfortable and classic than trendy, but my goodness. Are they serious? I saw jeans that were just the sane side of hot pink paired with a neon yellow belt.
Striped red, green white and blue shirts that really looked like something from the early 80’s. In fact, a lot of the stuff looked like the 80’s on crack… and for those of us who remember the 80’s, it wasn’t a decade of fashion excellence. My daughter recently bought leg warmers…and tights with a semi-automatic rifle embossed on them. Um, yeah–won’t get into the political side of that, I’m all for the right to bear arms, but I did draw the line on those.
And should I mention the rainbow jeans?
The tapestry pants?
I may not wear mom jeans, in fact one of my favorite fashion trends was when the waist dropped to the hips, but they are blue or black.
I have come to the conclusion that it’s not that older people don’t want to be trendy, they just can’t understand the current fashion trends or why younger people would want to dress that way. Which puts me firmly in the old camp.
Are there any fashion trends you just don’t understand?
