As some of you already know, we spend the winters in Wickenburg. Arizona where I barrel race and my husband team ropes. This is our third year and we stay longer each time we come down. The weather is like the best of spring every day. It’s been extra warm with the days around 85 degrees and sunny. Here’s the view from the camp where we stay. It’s on Forepaugh Rd. between Wickenburg and the tiny town of Aguila.
Here’s the roping arena and two great guys.
Every year is good, but this one has been extra special. Friends from home stayed at the same place and we’ve become close to the property owners. We played dominos and poker, practiced roping and went to an infinite number of yard sales. Oh, boy. Did we ever yard sale. This glass and metal table is one of my best finds.
My old friend, Yo, and Della, a new friend from Wyoming and I went to three barrel races a week and had the most fun. We were all on young horses. They can be unpredictable, but they each had great runs from time to time. My horse, Star Dun Mac, better known as Cisco, is getting better and better.
Yo’s husband dubbed us the Forepaugh Barrel Racing Syndicate. We liked that so much, we had T-shirts made up. The three of us were the syndicate and we even had two bodyguards.
If you ever get a chance to spend any time in Arizona during the winter, do it. The first time we came down, I wasn’t sure I’d like it. Now, if I could convince my husband to join me, I’d move here.
If you had the choice to be anywhere in the world, where would you choose? Where is your favorite place?
