This post will be short and sweet! Kids are out of school all week. I know, right? My eyes almost popped out of their sockets too! This should be interesting, to say the least. My NaNoWriMo word count is going to suffer big time! Having to keep them busy and then all that food. Geesh! What’s a girl to do? LOL
I’d like to wish everyone a Very Happy Thanksgiving filled with love, laughter, family and friends and of course lots of yummy food. It’s been one crazy year for our family, but we still have so much to be thankful for. The blessings are all around us. Sometimes we just have to pause long enough to notice.
This will probably sound strange to some of you, but I’ve never much liked turkey unless it was smoked or fried. I’m a ham girl. But I have to be honest, my favorite course at Thanksgiving is dessert! Apple pie here I come! And the best part is I don’t have to make it. My oldest is the best apple pie maker around next to her Grandma. 🙂
Grandma Ohnoutka’s Apple Pie
1 Box Pie Crusts (2 crusts)
6 green, peeled apples (Granny Smith are my favorite)
1 ½ cup white sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 Tablespoons butter
Pinch of salt
1. In a large bowl, combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt and add to cut up apples, tossing well to coat.
2. Fill pastry lined 9 inch pie pan with apple mixture. Dot with butter.
3. Place second crust on top of pie filling, cut slits in top of crust to vent. Seal the edges of the crust with a fork or by hand.
4. Bake at 400 degrees for 45 min to 1 hour, or until crust is golden and filling is bubbly.
