A big ‘Hi’ from the Great White North

Hi Everyone, I’m Amy. The other token Canadian. 😉

Leah Braemel coerced me into joining …I mean asked me if I would be interested in joining ENALR.

I jumped at the chance. WOOT! And I’m so happy to be here.

So a little bit about me, eh? (Yes, I do say that a lot).

Well, I’m the mother of three rambunctious kids. One girl who will be turning 10 at the end of September. Holy, moly where does the time go? And two boys, one who is 7 and the other who is 4.

I was first published in 2007 with Ellora’s Cave.

This September marks the release of my debut Medical Romance with Harlequin Mills & Boon. Ever since I really thought about becoming a writer I’ve loved Harlequin. I used to read Presents, sneaking them out of my Mom’s or my grandma’s room. They read a lot of Sheikh books. 😉

I remember staring at their writing guidelines on the internet in the late 90’s and thinking …what if?

Of course, life got in the way in the form of marrying my country boy (I’m a city girl, born and raised outside of Toronto). I also had kids, but writing had always been in the back of my mind.

In 2010 I saw a call for a Medical Fast Track. Get your manuscript in front of the eyes of an editor, but at the time they were only asking for a blurb, synopsis and one chapter. I thought, why not? I love Grey’s Anatomy.

At the end of the fast track I got a request for a partial. WOOT! A month after I submitted that, they asked for rewrites on the partial. So I conquered the revisions and sent it back in December of 2010. In July 2011 I got a request for a full. It also came during a very dark part of my life and the tragic loss of one of my best friends. It was hard to write during that time, but write I did. I sent the full in December 2011. And waited. In March 2012 I started working with an editor. End of August 2012, she left and I was assigned Suzy Clarke, who pushed me further than I’ve ever been pushed before.

I learned a lot from Suzy. A lot. (She left too in August 2013 *sob*, but I love my new editor Laura!)

In January 2013 on a cold, dark, COLD (Did I mention cold?) Friday I got an email from England “When would be a good time to call?”

And the rest is history, because September 1, 2013 my debut medical and Fast Track submission (I still laugh at the Fast Track part) SAFE IN HIS HANDS released.

My second book Melting the Ice Queen’s Heart is scheduled for February, 2014 and I just inked my signature to another three book contract with Medicals. I love writing about handsome, alpha doctors. I have plans for an air paramedic heroine in the very near future! 🙂

As for me, you know I love Grey’s Anatomy. I’m an eclectic music listener. I have Brooks & Dunn, Queen, NKOTB, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Breaking Benjamin & Eminem on my iPhone. It depends on my mood and my writing.

Movies. I love them. Especially funny ones.

I’m an Anglophile. Anything British. I lurves it. This stems from my English grandfather and from my paternal side. Us Ruttans in Canada are United Empire Loyalists.

I also love car trips. In the summer of 2012 we drove just shy of 10,000 km round trip from SW Ontario (where I live) to Alberta for my SIL’s wedding. We drove through the states there and Canada on the way back. It’s where I fell in love with Montana, Wyoming & South Dakota.

And I’m planning a long car trip with Leah Braemel next year for RT in New Orleans. Not as long as Alberta, but still it should be loads of fun.

I love to hear from readers and authors and …well almost anyone unless you’re a spammer. You can find me on Twitter or Facebook or at my website.

Thanks to all the lovely ladies at ENALR and letting me join! I’ll stop rambling now! 😉
