Good-bye Summer Break
I had so much I wanted to say in this post. Like how sad I was to hear the news about Neil Armstrong passing. Talk about one giant loss for mankind. And then there was my childhood favorite, Jerry Nelson, Count von Count of ‘Sesame Street. So many great memories back then of much simpler time when responsibility was a foreign word to me. Oh, to be a kid again.
But I totally ran out of steam last night. First day of school here today. Kids dragging their feet as they walked out the door. Mom smiling, but trying not to act too excited. I have to say, this seemed like one of the longest summers I can remember. I really enjoyed the time with the kids and the word “bored” didn’t even come up once. Probably because with me off my feet they knew there was plenty to do and kept themselves busy so they wouldn’t have to suffer the consequences. LOL
I’m a bit sad we didn’t get to travel much due to me being off my feet and us selling our camper, but staying close to home wasn’t that bad. We accomplished the important things. Like our oldest daughter making that all too important decision about which college she wants to attend. Talk about a big load off my shoulders. And it’s not too far way!
I tried to focus on the trip we plan to take next summer to Yosemite National Park in celebration of her graduation. I still can’t believe this is her last year of high school.
New school year, new puppy, and new milestones. Man, I’m having to take way too many deep breaths lately.
Just for fun, if you watched Seseme Street, who was your favorite character?

I’ve always been partial to Grover. I also relate very strongly to Cookie Monster. I can’t believe summer is winding down. This year is flying past!

Loved Cookie Monster too, Margaret! It was always fun to imitate him eating those cookies. LOL

I’ve always been partial to Elmo with his sweet innocence and Oscar the Grouch because we all know him personally. My daughter had a friend whose parents got her a garbage can for her birthday because she like to pretend she was Oscar he Grouch:-) Pretty indulgent, huh? LOL! Enjoy the peace and quiet today.

What a cute idea, Pam! I bet she got alot of attention with that one. LOL Elmo was our oldest’s favorite. Although, the talking doll really got on my nerves after awhile. She went everywhere with him. Still have him somewhere.

My mother always said that time passes faster the older one gets. And sadly, I’m finding that she is correct! I don’t know where the days go anymore. But hey Melissa! I’ve got a motorhome for sale that would be perfect for your trips next summer!
Sesame Street came out LONG after I was grown so it wasn’t a part of my childhood in any fashion. I can’t honestly say I’ve ever watched a episode. So based on that, I don’t really have a favorite. I guess I could grab the popular ones like Elmo, or Bert and Ernie or Cookie Monster but I know NOTHING about their onair personas. But I’m pretty sure I’m married to Grouch. Shhh Don’t tell him I said that!

LOL Cyndi! And it looks like a really nice one too!
Time being an issue, we will end up flying. I’m going to miss seeing all that beautiful countryside along the way.
And don’t worry. My lips are sealed! LOL

Our summer went so fast this year. I think my kids have way too many things to entertain them, so unlike I was by the end of summer, they’re not even close to ready for school to start up again. I’m ready though!
Enjoy having the house back to yourself!
I think my favorite Sesame Street character was probably Mr. Snuffleupagus (yes, it’s spelled with a “p”, who knew?) or maybe Grover. I don’t think Elmo was on when I was little, or he wasn’t the big thing yet, but he was probably my kids’ favorite.

There were so many great characters! They just don’t make shows like that anymore. Today was very quite and I enjoyed every second!

Summer went by well here. One week seemed slow, the next seemed fast. The kid has been looking forward to school, so I’m glad he finally got there.
fav SS character? I didn’t watch that a lot. just was a favorite, but I did always like the Count.

I had a movie that had Grover in it and he was pretty in awesome in that.

Looking forward to school? LOL I sorta remember those days. Enjoy that while it last.

Melissa, you and I will be dealing with a lot of the same milestones this year. I’m jealous that your daughter picked a school! Mine is back to square one. So we have a lot more visits ahead of us, if she can start targeting again. What did she pick?
Big surprise–my favorite SS character was Mr. Snuffleupagus! LOL Probably for different reasons, though. I felt as invisible and low of self-esteem as he did. I loved Grover, too, but that might have been more as I got older. “The Monster at the End of this Book” was my favorite of my kids’ books, though they didn’t love it as much as I did. LOL
Our summer went by both fast and slow, too. It didn’t feel fast as it was passing, but now that it’s over, it’s too soon.

It was a long hard decision, but she decided on Texas State. We have a niece that went there a few years back and my daughter loved the campus and what they had to offer.
Hope you guys find the perfect fit soon.

That’s great! And thanks, I hope so too. LOL

I was a little too old for Sesame Street, but my brother watched it faithfully. My favorites, when I watched with him, were The Count, Bert and Ernie, and Sherlock Hemlock… of course..:)

LOL You are such a great big brother, Will.
It’s always more fun when you have someone to watch with.
