Getting Adjusted to New Routines

I’ve made so many changes this year that I am having to get accustomed to this new life of mine.  But, hey, I’m lovin’ it!  I am more dedicated to my writing, I have more time with friends, I got rid of the chaos in my life, I’m going on a new diet and losing weight, I moved, and I even changed my hair color.  Sometimes, the right changes just make all the difference in the world.

Everyday, there is something to do for me.

I’m either writing, working, doing really fun things with my friends, reading, jogging, or joking around with Uncle Jack, Papaw, and my big brother(who is really my partner in crime, LOL).

There is SO much time to write, and I LOVE it!  I am almost done with my paranormal, and the annual writers conference is approaching, and I’m VERY excited!

One of my writer friends in our group who is VERY dedicated to her writing career gets 10,000K words done a week!  That is my new goal since I am starting to take this so seriously, and I am not procrastinating anymore!  Stress WILL do it.

I am a biggie on having routine in my life.  Last year, I never knew what was going to happen from one day to the next, and I always had writer’s block.  Now everything is level, and my writing takes up more time than anything else.

Since I’m almost done with this book which I love writing so much-I am kind of sad.  I enjoy writing it, and I absolutely love my characters.   I enjoy so much that I hate to finish it.   I wish it could keep going.  Do you other writers ever get the same feeling with a book you love so much that you’ve put your heart into writing?

With this new routine, I’ll be done with it in no time!  How do you adjust to new routines?  Do you like drastic changes?

  1. I do like routine. It’s comfort for me and I know I’ll have time to write. But beign jarred out of routine is good too. Sometimes I need that.

And I get you on being sad to leave your characters. I feel the same way which is why I sometimes invite them back in my next story. Makes it fun for me.

  2. I think I write better with routine…in fact, my life runs much better with a routine…which I don’t have since I’m no longer working a day job. I swear, I got more done when I was working than I do now!

  3. Routine is a must for me. Without one I’d never get any writing done. Working full time doesn’t lend me near enough time to write, but I know I can always write on the weekends.

I totally get what your saying about your characters. Mine become old friends and I hate to say by. I think that’s why ATB became a series. I still get to visit with them all, and each of the girls get their books. :)

  4. I like a routine. Not so much for the knowing what’s going on, but because I have a harder time not doing something if I normally do it/expecting to have it done.

  5. I like routine, too. If my schedule changes, it takes a little while for me to get into a rhythm again.

  6. Me too, Liz. I believe at the start of every year is a drastic change for me. That’s when I am jarred out of my old routine into a new one the most.

That’s a terrific idea about the characters! I might just do that with my next novel! :-D

  7. Sometimes, that will happen to me too, Cyndi. In fact, it happens to me quite a bit. When I am not working, I don’t get as much done on my WIP. It’s the complete opposite when I am.

  8. I would never get any writing done without routine either, Vicki. Like you said, it’s a must.

And that’s how I see my characters-like my old friends. Maybe it’s because I created them the way I wanted them to be. Lol!

  9. That’s true, Keri. When you get in the routine of doing something, it eventually becomes a habit, and it will get done. There are lots of things in my life which I need to start getting into the habit of doing.

  10. It takes awhile for me to get back into the groove of things too, Jane. I’m starting to get the hang of it now; though.

  11. I’m a big planner too and a routine is a must if I want to get things done. :) I just wish I could come up with that magical routine that would keep me on track and make me more productive. LOL

  12. I usually have a hard time STAYING on track too, Melissa-especially when distractions get in the way.
