We Have A House…Maybe

Hey everyone,

I know I’ve been MIA for the past week and not around too much the week before that as well. And yes, life has been draining to say the least. Work, house hunting, (which equals some disappointment), and becoming the president of my local chapter.

Oh yeah, better add in the family here too. They like to have their time on occasion. :)

I can’t say that work is better yet. It’s not. Hopefully in the next few weeks decisions will be made so that I’m not running around trying to do way too many jobs at the same time in what I used to think was plenty of time to be at work. Yeah, I know, run on sentence. But that’s how my work life is right now…run on and on.

Back to the house. We found one. We love it. We want it. The bank owns it. No really they do. Not in a bank owns it until you pay it off way. So…they countered our offer, we accepted their counter and everything should be just grand. Really, is it ever just grand.

We were approved back in January when we started this process for way more than this house cost. But it’s now May and although we’re more than approved, I found out yesterday (while at work), that they needed all the paperwork again. And they wanted it yesterday (while I was at work).

Scrambling? Oh yeah. Science Guy went to the Realtors while I scanned everything in from me at the office and emailed it. Which meant I had to pull bank records, taxes, and pay info.

Now we wait until Wednesday for the final final acceptance of our offer. In the meantime they can still show the house if they want too. I so don’t want strangers walking around in what I’ve now come to believe as my house.

So fingers crossed, okay maybe toes, we need our fingers to write. :) And hopefully next week, I’ll it will be an absolute.

What about you? Have you been through the house hunting mill? Get your hopes up and then realize it might not happen? How do you handle it while you’re waiting?

Writing Wishes and Plotting Dreams,

Vicki

  1. Have I been there. There is NOTHING as traumatic as house negotiations, on either end of the deal. Fortunately we’ve done very little of it (which is probably why I think of it as traumatic). We’ve had four addresses since we married, and only four, and we’ve been married for so many years it’s embarrassing to say. The worst negotiations were over our house in Kew Gardens when we came to the States. It was all still in process when we sailed, and were it not for our wonderful solicitor (our next door neighbor on one side) and accountant (our next door neighbor on the other side) the whole thing would have fallen apart. They both have the permanent offer of my right arm, should that prove to be useful.

We lucked out coming here. We sold our dear old house in one morning, to be knocked down and a new splendid version built, at the top of the market, which developed weak knees shortly thereafter and (this being the Detroit metropolitan area) collapsed on its face, where it still lies. However, let me assure you that selling a house to be knocked down is the Way To Go. You just have to empty the place, which was enough of a challenge as we’d lived there 26 years. NO CLEANING!

Fingers crossed up to the elbows for you, Vicki, that all goes smoothly.

  2. Well, I love to house hunt – still go to Open houses though the hubs says, “NO WAY.” We have moved a bunch in our marriage – let’s see – 6 times in 15 years. We’re staying put for a while, so I just do projects. :)

We did buy lake property and put a trailer on it last year, so that’s kind of like getting a new house.

Good luck – hope it all works out for you.

  3. Beppie, I’m with you. Moving is not my happy place. I love the decorating and stuff, but packing everything. Ugh!

I would have been a nervous wreck sailing over with a house in the works. Wow

  4. Amy – I love the house hunting part. Seeing other houses and how they are laid out was cool. Well, some of them weren’t so cool.

Wow and trailer on a lake sounds like heaven. Do you guys go there for the weekends and stuff?

  5. I’m hoping to never have to move again! It’s never a good experience. I’ve never been good at waiting. LOL Now worrying? I have that one covered! Keeping my fingers crossed for you, Vicki! :)

  6. *thinking hopeful thoughts*

Best of luck Vicki. I hope it come through for ya’ll. I know you want this so bad!

And Amy, whenever I move into a house, I’ll have you up to decorate it! Amy has a beautiful home that is decorated gorgeously. There’s another project for you. :O) Ya know, if you’re looking.

  7. Melissa – that’s what I keep telling Science Guy and already he’s saying, oh in about five years we’ll sell and move. Ummm…no. I don’t like the moving.

  8. Keri – thanks for the good wishes. And maybe we can send Amy pictures of the house and she can tell us what would be best for decoration. You know, online decorating by Amy. ;)

  9. Good luck. We’ve been house hunting for years, but haven’t been able to find one that we love for a reasonable price.
