Weather…Weather…Weather

Last night we were all lying in bed. We’d actually managed to get in bed early, a shocker here lately in my house. Hubs is just starting to fall deep asleep–I know because of his snoring. My eyes are getting heavy and that’s when I hear it. Rain. HARD rain that turned harder by the second. Within a minute, there was the distinct sound hail pinging the roof. Another minute or two and it sounds like it’s raining baseballs.

Tornadoes were rolling all through Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, (and maybe Louisiana, I know Shreveport got hit with something.) last night. We get up. Hubs gets the tv on. I’m watching the kid on the monitor. He’s trying to sleep, but it’s not easy with the roof is taking it’s beating. He finally sits up and I go get him and put him in our bed.

Hubs and I are looking out the window. That’s when I realize it wasn’t baseballs hitting the roof, but marbles. Lots and lots of marbles. Our porches were covered in white with all the marble-sized hail. I’ve never seen so much of it at once.

We’re trying to watch the tv to find out where the tornadoes are. Last we saw there was two heading towards our area. By this time, Mena, AR has pretty much been wiped out and that’s all the new anchors were focusing on. Whatever this storm was moving past us wasn’t getting any air time.

But, we survived. If there was a tornado, or just a terrible storm, I’m guessing we just caught some outer stuff. Biggest hold-my-breath while we wait for it to pass storm so far.

What’s been your worst storm this year? (Winter ’08 include for our blizzard infected readers!)

  1. I’m here! Survived all the storms last night. No problem at my house, EXCEPT all the wind and rain tore all the beautiful flowers off my dogwood trees. WAAAAAA

Worst storm? The ice storm we had in little around 1998 or so. We were without power for a week. Had a generator, so we survived, but it was a LONG week.

Glad to hear you, hubs and the kiddo made it good last night.

  2. Glad you made it through! We were watching the news I was thinking the worst of it went a bit south of you. I was telling Hubs, “see where it says Hot Springs? I think Cyndi’s a bit left of that, where all those roads are.” :)

So sorry about the dogwood. Give your hubby my sympathies through this tough time for him. I know how he loves that tree!

  3. He does love that tree. But it’ll be back with blooms next year, bigger and better.

  4. Wow! So glad you ladies made it through okay!!

I hate storms like that. The worst one for us hit last year in September. Hurricane Ike will forever be one of those memories I have nightmares about. We all survived, but our bedroom ended up with a large pine tree in it. Lots of water damage. It took over 6 weeks for us to get everything repaired and back to normal. There are still people with those blue tarps on their roofs even today.

  5. It sounded much worse up your way, Keri. It just rained really hard here, and we had the tornado watches. As far as the worse storm of the year goes, I think that one would be it. It could get much worse though.
