Spring….is springing

So my last two times up blogging, I’ve taken a rather serious approach which is good for me as I tend to be a bit silly.

So today, I decided to go light with a little Ode to Spring. I guess I can be like a kid – everything’s my favorite. When pumpkins emerge and football revs up,  fall is my favorite. When Christmas rolls around with its twinkling lights and hot chocolate, winter is my fav. And so, yesterday as I walked through the newly blooming countryside, spring became my new favorite.

And, who could blame me? Yellow forsythia sprouted, mockingbirds tweeted (the good old-fashioned kind) and sticky green leaves unfolded on the winter-weary trees. The blue sky was the perfect background for the bright lavender redbuds. Oh sure, not everything was green in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, but patches of clover clustered on the yellowed fields and there seemed to be hope in every joggers eyes. The sun blazed down as hard as it could for mid-March and I actually worked up a sweat. Not to mention, over in the school yard, baseball practice was in full swing (pardon the pun). I know you are thinking, “Jeez, stop with the poetics!” but the newness of it all always inspires me.

So when I got home, I poked through my flowerbeds. Yep, it’s all starting to come up. My daylilies are sprouting, along with my lantana. The grasses are shooting green through the papery yellow and I surprising found a lone tulip (which I hadn’t even planted.) Happy surprises. Which all lead to one thing: big cleanup this weekend. Time to rake out the old leaves, pull up those @#*@# dandelions, and start fertilizing. And then pop some Aleve for my aching back :)

Of course, this will be short-lived, I suppose. When hamburgers on the grill  and margeritas by the pool appear, summer will be my favorite. But, until then, I’ll just enjoy the warm sunshine and cool mornings of spring.

What about you? What’s your favorite thing about spring?

  1. I love the flowers blooming and just that extra step you feel when walking outside. It’s not to hot (for those of us who live in the South) and it’s starting warm up for those who live up north.

Yep, spring is one of my fav’s, everything is coming back to life. :)

Sorry I haven’t been around this week, but I’m having a great time in AZ and will be home on Sunday.

  2. Forgot you were in Az – hope you are having lots of fun on your visit.

And, yep, it’s starting to feel good and I hope our Northern friends are starting to feel a hint of spring. I enjoyed the first sweat of the season yesterday. Of course, I won’t feel that way by June. :)

  3. Spring is my favorite season. By the time summer rolls around it’s so darn humid and hot here around the Houston area it’s hard to even breathe much less enjoy the outdoors. Even the pool water is warm! LOL

  4. Jeepers, what happened to yesterday? Spring–Best part is that it’s still cold enough to open the windows at night to sleep, but warm enough in the day that I can go into my summer wardrobe and even on some days, can lay in the back yard to get some color on my white body!
